My overarching theme for my models were to have them be mini Christmas presents for my family members, since the holiday is coming up and I think a custom made present would be a great gift.

The first Model is a mini mounted fish that I thought I would give to my father as a present. Fishermen are always exaggerating how big their fishes are, so I thought it would be hilarious to give him a tiny mounted fish as a joke. The biggest challenge in this project was defiantly getting the organic shapes to not look so geometric. I was able to do the fins quite well, however the head is the biggest part where the model just looks a bit off. I decided to give it a cartoon style head in order to finish it up. The solution to the organic look for the fins were to use the Sketch tool and then simply extrude the curves a tiny. Specifically I am very happy with how the tail turned out.

The second model is a Mini DJ set that I did for my sister’s boyfriend, as he loves to Dj. This one was a more simple model, however getting the spacing down for the model was tricky. Luckily I was able to overlay an image and get everything in the right spot. This one turned out not bad, however a lot of the small parts of the model might have been a bit too small to notice if it were print out.

The Next model was a mini figure of King Arthur’s sword stuck in the stone. This one is for my dad, as he absolutely loves the story of King Arthur and many other medieval themed stories. The biggest challenge was getting the proportions of the sword, as well as making sure that the sword handles are at an angle where they can be printed out without causing any problems. Luckily I was able to put in a nice 60 degree angle for the handles.

The next model is an astronaut helmet I made for my little cousin, as he loves space and toys related to it. I didn’t show it in the picture, but the bottom is actually open so it can be put over another toy or action figure. The most challenging part of this model was getting the sides to connect correctly to the visor parts of the helmet. Luckily the revolve tool came in extremely handy in making sure that the pieces revolved around the same central point.

The last Project was a broken egg for my mom, as she absolutely loves a certain Japanese character named Gudetama that is an egg. She collects figures and other merchandise of him, so I thought it would be a great idea to custom make her one of him. The hardest part of this one was getting the broken egg shells to look right. I had to use Difference on an extruded triangle in order to cut the shapes out. This model is more simple, however I thought it would be the most meaningful, present so i decided to print this one.

Printed Model:

My 3D printed model turned out fantastic, and I cannot wait to paint them to look like the Gudetama character for a present.
